As I’ve mentioned before, I’m in a brand new rock and roll back band called The Sweat.

We play Spinal Tap-inspired tough-guy rock, with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

We’re playing our first ever full-length show this Thursday, July 9 at the El Mocambo with two other bands: Huron and Sandman Viper Command. We’d love to see you there.

There’s a Facebook event for the show, if you’re into that kind of thing.

I’ll be performing as part of a brand new rock and roll band called The Sweat. We’ll do the LFLF song “King Hipster.”

Our guitarist Mike and his wife Catherine had a pair of babies in March, which meant some time off for the band. But getting ready to get back at it, and we’re playing a couple of shows in June. I’m looking forward to it.

Turns out we’re playing the Horseshoe this Monday, April 2, around 10pm or so.

Now, I know it’s a Monday night, but there are at least three good reasons to come to this show:

1. We’re opening for a band called The Manvils, who seem pretty cool. The Georgia Straight called them the “Best Vancouver Band 2006.” And according to their website, they’re headlining at the Knitting Factory in NYC soon.
2. The Canaries will have copies of our new CD for sale at the door. They’re shiny, and pretty, and sound halfway decent. And I think they’re five dollars, which isn’t too bad, all things considered.
3. Mr. Frank Sinclair promises to tell a funny joke.

So, if you can make it out to the Horseshoe on Monday night, it’d be great to see you.

My friend Laura Peek is a very talented singer-songwriter. For a good long while now, she’s been talking me about a record she’s working on. And I’ve been waiting patiently since she first mentioned it.

Luckily, it seems that the wait will soon be over. According to her blog, the new CD will likely come out in April. What’s more, she’s posted three new songs from it on her MySpace page. And, she’s playing in Toronto on March 11th.
