Corktown Ukulele Jam: YouTube night

If you attend only one ukulele-related event in Corktown this week, make it this one. Steve and David of the Corktown Ukulele Jam have arranged for the uke action to move to the front room of the Dominion on Queen, and the whole night will be captured on video and uploaded to YouTube. The Best [...]

Corktown Ukulele Jam

My pal Tom gave me a ukulele for Christmas. To me, it’s wonderful. To Jenna, it’s irritating. So then, I can’t tell you how happy I was to discover the Corktown Ukulele Jam. It started about a month ago, and is held every Wednesday at the Dominion pub on Queen (a five-minute walk from our [...]

Wireless Corktown expands east

I’m really happy to report that SSID Corktown_Free extends a little farther east on Queen Street, thanks to Val, a neighbour I met this past weekend, and Savoury Grounds, the new coffee shop. You can see an updated coverage map here, and more details on the project here.

New Cafe = Savoury Grounds

This morning before work, I stopped into the new coffee shop at 354 Queen Street East. I went by tonight after Jenna texted me to announce its existence, and peered in the windows. I spotted comfy [...]

Popeye’s to open in former Coffee Time location

Earlier this year, the Coffee Time at Queen and Sherbourne closed its doors because the owner was arrested (for allegedly selling drugs out of the store). It has sat, windows papered over, for months, until recently, they tore down the Coffee Time sign and repainted: A few days ago, they installed a Popeye’s Chicken and [...]

Lots of pizza at Queen and Parliament

For some reason, our corner is going crazy for pizza. Today, I stopped into the soon-to-open Magic Oven at 360 Queen St. East, and talked to the owner, Tony about my little WiFi project. He said they plan to open for tomorrow night, Friday the 20th. A bit farther west, there seems to be a [...]
